The Kursk Root Icon ('root' coming from the root of the tree which the icon was found next to by a hunter in 1295) has a long history associated with Russia and major events throughout the nation's history. After the Bolshevik Revolution in 1918, the icon travelled around Europe until finally being taken to a permanent home in New York in the mid-1940's. Today it continues to travel the globe and work miracles through the intercession of the Holy Theotokos.
All are invited to visit the monastery for services and to venerate the icon.
