Kursk Root Icon to Visit October 24-25

The ancient miraculous icon will be present for the Saturday of Souls services.

The Kursk Root Icon will be visiting St. Tikhon's Monastery with Bishop Nicholas (ROCOR) on October 24th and 25th. She will arrive around 3 pm on Friday, October 24.   A Moleben will be served for special intentions of those gathered followed by the the Vespers and Matins for the departed. On Saturday morning, the Divine Liturgy for the 4th Saturday of Souls will be celebrated followed by another Moleben of thanksgiving with an anointing service.

More details will be forthcoming including a schedule and an opportunity to submit names for inclusion in the Saturday of Souls Liturgy.

The Kursk Root Icon ('root' coming from the root of the tree which the icon was found next to by a hunter in 1295) has a long history associated with Russia and major events throughout the nation's history.  After the Bolshevik Revolution in 1918, the icon travelled around Europe until finally being taken to a permanent home in New York in the mid-1940's.  Today it continues to travel the globe and  work miracles through the intercession of the Holy Theotokos.

All are invited to visit the monastery for services and to venerate the icon.
