Fr. Archimandrite Athanasy reposed in the Lord at 11 a.m. this morning February 5th, 2016. Father's body will be in the Church from Saturday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. A pannikhida before the funeral liturgy will be served on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. On Wednesday morning Metropolitan Tikhon will preside at the funeral liturgy with hours beginning at 9:10 a.m. The service for burial of a monastic will follow the Liturgy (approximately 11:30 a.m.) with the committal. All are welcome to break bread at a memorial luncheon following the services. May Fr. Athanasy's memory be eternal!

Returning to his monastic and spiritual home, Bishop David was warmly welcomed by the entire community. On September 13th and 14th, Metropolitan Tikhon will serve for the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-giving Cross. Vladimir Gorbik will be directing these services of a combined Seminary and lay choir. After this, a newly formed professional choir under Vladimir Gorbik's direction (The Patriarch Tikhon Choir) will continue on to perform in  New York City, Pittsburgh,and Washington D.C. on September 16th, 17th and 18th. At the recent board of Trustees Meeting on March 8th, Fr. Igumen Sergius was appointed interim dean of St. Tikhon's Seminary after the departure of Fr. Alexander Atty. Fr. Sergius will work closely with the administration and students to ensure a smooth transfer for the next dean in the fall of 2013. A search committee for a new Dean has been appointed and applications are now being accepted.

Hymns of Holy Russia in the New World - 02/06/13

As part of it's 75th anniversary celebrations, St. Tikhon's Seminary will host a rigorous three-day master class for the select student choirs of three of America’s premier Orthodox Christian seminaries—St. Tikhon’s Seminary, St. Vladimir’s Seminary, and Holy Trinity Seminary—from Feb. 28 to March 3, with world renowned Moscow choirmaster Vladimir Gorbik. As the culmination the master class, the combined seminary choirs will perform a concert of Russian Orthodox liturgical music, sung primarily in English. The concert will take place on Sunday, March 3, at 6:30 pm in St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral, 35 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA. A large portion of St. Tikhon's Monastery and Seminary Icon Repository will be displayed at Villanova University along with six other private collections from October 26th to December 16th. The official opening of the exhibit will be on Friday, October 26th at 5 pm. The Miracle working Icon "She Who is Quick to Hear" will be present for the opening with a Moliben at 6 pm and a reception to follow. The exhibit will have pieces from the 1st century to the present. Monastery to Re-paint for Memorial Day - 03/03/12

In preparation for Memorial Day this year, the Monastery is going to begin some desperately needed repainting of the Bell-Tower, Dining Hall/Trapeza and Garage. The Bell Tower will be done by professional painters due to the danger and size. The cost for this will be $7,000.00. The Trapeza and Garage will be painted by the Brotherhood at a cost of $1,500.00 each totaling $10,000. The Monastery Brotherhood welcomes Fr. Athanasy (Mastalsky) and the Myrrh-streaming Icon of St. Anna who have recently joined the community here at St. Tikhon's. Fr. Athanasy will continue to travel with the miraculous Icon of St. Anna and provide assistance to pilgrims and to the community here. Every Sunday at 1:00 p.m. we will have a Moliben for the sick and suffering served in front of St. Anna. All are welcome to join us in the All-Saints Bell Tower Chapel behind the main Church each Sunday for the service. Society of the Friends of St. Tikhon's Monastery Meets - 10/03/11

The Society of Friends (founded in 1964) recently met to discuss its upcoming improvements of the Monastery driveway asphalt as well as the upcoming dedication of its recently purchased reliquary for the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov which will take place on December 6th. The Society of the Friends of St. Tikhon's Monastery is accepting applications for membership which costs $12.00 a year and works to benefit the Monastery. Monastery Now Accepting Items for Museum and Repository - 09/14/11

Abbot Igumen Sergius and Curator Fr. John Perich are pleased to announce that the Metropolitan Museum at St. Tikhon’s Monastery is now receiving donations that will be displayed and housed permanently for the many hundreds of pilgrims that visit our museum each year and will be preserved for future posterity. Such donations including Icons, Relics, and other religious items that would be of historic interest will be considered for addition to our large and precious collection and will be acknowledge with an in-kind tax deductible receipt for the current fair market value. Bishop Tikhon and Bishop George Concelebrate in Historic Liturgy - 08/14/11

On the Patronal Feast Day of the Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonask, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia (OCA) and Bishop George of Mayfield (ROCOR) concelebrated Liturgy in the Monastery Church in the presence of the Kursk Root Icon and many clergy and visitors. It was a historic day since the last time a ROCOR Bishop served with an OCA Bishop at the Monastery was almost seventy years ago. We give thanks to God, to Metropolitan Hilarion, and to Archpriest Serge for bringing the Kursk Root Icon again to the Monastery and we invite everyone to join us again for next year's Patronal Feast Day.  For more pictures click here.

Kursk Root Icon to Visit for St. Tikhon's Day August 13th - 07/14/11

With the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion, Archpriest Serge Lukianov will visit our Monastery with the Miracle-working Kursk Root Icon on August 12th and 13th for the Vigil and Liturgy of our Patronal Feast Day for St. Tikhon. We invite everyone to come to pray before our Lady with us and to join us for Liturgy at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday the 13th and to a festive Trapeza which will follow after the Liturgy. Vigil on the 12th will begin at 4:00 p.m.

Monastery Continues to Renovate - 02/24/11

The Monastery is currently undergoing a much needed renovation project. Insulation and energy efficient windows are being placed in every room along with new carpet and electrical system. We hope that this will considerably lower our current energy bill. Total cost of renovation project for the entire building will be $73,000.00. We currently need approximately $27,000 more to complete the project. We are grateful for anyone who wishes to donate any amount towards this project or if you want to donate to a specific item, an energy efficient window (there are 20 total) for a monk's cell are $350.00 each. New St. Nikolai Book Released! - 10/01/10

During the fall, St. Tikhon's Press will release two new St. Nikolai books: the first is a re-print of the coveted "The Universe as Signs and Symbols" which is now available. Click here to order. The second is a Biography of St. Nikolai translated from Serbian by Sister Mihaila which will be available at the end of October or the beginning of November. St. Nikolai was the beloved rector of St. Tikhon's Seminary in the early and mid 1950's and is a powerful presence at the Monastery through his relics, icons, writings,  personal belongings and memories. Acting Superior Hieromonk Sergius Presents a Pre-Lenten Retreat - 02/07/09

On Saturday, February 7, the Greek Orthodox Parish of Loudoun County offered a Pre-Lenten Spiritual Retreat on the theme: "Theosis: Steps Towards Salvation," which was offered by Hieromonk Sergius, Acting Superior of St. Tikhon’s Monastery. Father Sergius also concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with Father George, and was asked to preach the sermon.

A New Superior for St. Tikhon's Monastery - 01/02/09

Recently, the Monastery has undergone some fundamental changes in administration. The Hieromonk Sergius was appointed acting Superior of St. Tikhon's Monastery and given full administrative and financial authority of St. Tikhon's Monastery and Bookstore. Financial reports of St. Tikhon's Monastery are now available on this web site. Fr. Sergius has had full control of all Monastery and Bookstore finances since November and is available to answer any question or field any concerns that any Church member may have at monksergius@gmail.com. (Fr. Sergius has been at the Monastery for many years but has never been involved with any of the financial history of St. Tikhon's Monastery.) The Monastery is currently conducting an internal audit with the help Fr. Michael Tassos (OCA Treasurer/CPA) and Fr. Dennis Swencki (Controller for the OCA.)

The Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, North America's oldest monastery, was founded in 1905 by St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and Enlightener of North America, to serve as a spiritual center for Orthodox Christians on this continent.
