Fr. Archimandrite Athanasy reposed in the Lord at 11 a.m. this morning February 5th, 2016. Father's body will be in the Church from Saturday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon. A pannikhida before the funeral liturgy will be served on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. On Wednesday morning Metropolitan Tikhon will preside at the funeral liturgy with hours beginning at 9:10 a.m. The service for burial of a monastic will follow the Liturgy (approximately 11:30 a.m.) with the committal. All are welcome to break bread at a memorial luncheon following the services. May Fr. Athanasy's memory be eternal!

On Tuesday, March 25th, newly consecrated Bishop David of Alaska visited the monastery and Seminary community. Returning to his monastic and spiritual home, Bishop David was warmly welcomed by the entire community. Metropolitan Herman celebrated 50 years of anniversary of ordination to the Holy priesthood and was congratulated by Bishop David and all present. Also in attendance was his Grace, Bishop Mark.

On September 13th and 14th, Metropolitan Tikhon will serve for the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-giving Cross. Vladimir Gorbik will be directing these services of a combined Seminary and lay choir. After this, a newly formed professional choir under Vladimir Gorbik's direction (The Patriarch Tikhon Choir) will continue on to perform in  New York City, Pittsburgh,and Washington D.C. on September 16th, 17th and 18th. At the recent board of Trustees Meeting on March 8th, Fr. Igumen Sergius was appointed interim dean of St. Tikhon's Seminary after the departure of Fr. Alexander Atty. Fr. Sergius will work closely with the administration and students to ensure a smooth transfer for the next dean in the fall of 2013. A search committee for a new Dean has been appointed and applications are now being accepted.

As part of it's 75th anniversary celebrations, St. Tikhon's Seminary will host a rigorous three-day master class for the select student choirs of three of America’s premier Orthodox Christian seminaries—St. Tikhon’s Seminary, St. Vladimir’s Seminary, and Holy Trinity Seminary—from Feb. 28 to March 3, with world renowned Moscow choirmaster Vladimir Gorbik. As the culmination the master class, the combined seminary choirs will perform a concert of Russian Orthodox liturgical music, sung primarily in English. The concert will take place on Sunday, March 3, at 6:30 pm in St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral, 35 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA. The official opening of the exhibit will be on Friday, October 26th at 5 pm. The Miracle working Icon "She Who is Quick to Hear" will be present for the opening with a Moliben at 6 pm and a reception to follow. The exhibit will have pieces from the 1st century to the present. In preparation for Memorial Day this year, the Monastery is going to begin some desperately needed repainting of the Bell-Tower, Dining Hall/Trapeza and Garage. The Bell Tower will be done by professional painters due to the danger and size. The cost for this will be $7,000.00. The Trapeza and Garage will be painted by the Brotherhood at a cost of $1,500.00 each totaling $10,000. The Society of Friends (founded in 1964) recently met to discuss its upcoming improvements of the Monastery driveway asphalt as well as the upcoming dedication of its recently purchased reliquary for the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov which will take place on December 6th. The Society of the Friends of St. Tikhon's Monastery is accepting applications for membership which costs $12.00 a year and works to benefit the Monastery. On the Patronal Feast Day of the Monastery of St. Tikhon of Zadonask, Bishop Tikhon of Philadelphia (OCA) and Bishop George of Mayfield (ROCOR) concelebrated Liturgy in the Monastery Church in the presence of the Kursk Root Icon and many clergy and visitors. It was a historic day since the last time a ROCOR Bishop served with an OCA Bishop at the Monastery was almost seventy years ago. We give thanks to God, to Metropolitan Hilarion, and to Archpriest Serge for bringing the Kursk Root Icon again to the Monastery and we invite everyone to join us again for next year's Patronal Feast Day.  For more pictures click here.

With the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion, Archpriest Serge Lukianov will visit our Monastery with the Miracle-working Kursk Root Icon on August 12th and 13th for the Vigil and Liturgy of our Patronal Feast Day for St. Tikhon. The Monastery is currently undergoing a much needed renovation project. Insulation and energy efficient windows are being placed in every room along with new carpet and electrical system. We hope that this will considerably lower our current energy bill. Total cost of renovation project for the entire building will be $73,000.00. We currently need approximately $27,000 more to complete the project. We are grateful for anyone who wishes to donate any amount towards this project or if you want to donate to a specific item, an energy efficient window (there are 20 total) for a monk's cell are $350.00 each. On Saturday, February 7, the Greek Orthodox Parish of Loudoun County offered a Pre-Lenten Spiritual Retreat on the theme: "Theosis: Steps Towards Salvation," which was offered by Hieromonk Sergius, Acting Superior of St. Tikhon’s Monastery. Father Sergius also concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with Father George, and was asked to preach the sermon.

The Hieromonk Sergius was appointed acting Superior of St. Tikhon's Monastery and given full administrative and financial authority of St. Tikhon's Monastery and Bookstore. Sergius has had full control of all Monastery and Bookstore finances since November and is available to answer any question or field any concerns that any Church member may have at monksergius@gmail.com. (Fr.
